Tantra Definition


Tantra is a path for discovering our true nature. It is an accelerated path.  It is said that a Tantric practitioner, called a Tantrica, can awaken within one lifetime. As we walk the path we come to  recognize that we are Consciousness in form. Every moment is an opportunity to awaken fully. By accepting ourselves and what is arising in each moment without judgment, we are more present, joyful, and compassionate beings. We let go of fear and the need to try to be in control. As we awaken there is a recognition that we are one with all that is. The “self,” becomes a vehicle for experiencing the Earth-walk and we recognize that the “self” is not who we are. The experience of “no-self,” awakens us to the “Self,”  we are Universal Consciousness, God/Goddess, Spirit, Great Mystery, Buddha Mind, Christ Consciousness or however you want to label “All-that-is.”
The word “Tantra” is a Sanskrit word from India. Sanskrit is a very ancient language and some believe it was the first written language. “Tantra” has several meanings: to weave, expansion, and transformation. Tantra recognizes the divine play of  bliss and emptiness as Shakti and Shiva. Their dance mirrors the play of  duality and unity. Tantra is the awareness that the apparent chaotic forces of life are actually woven together  into one harmonious whole and only appear to be separate. This understanding allows us to learn to accept every moment as it is. When we are  challenged in accepting what is arising, we see it as opportunity to awaken, grow and expand.

In the twenty-first century, our lives tend to be fast-paced and complex. In order to cope, we tend to separate our life into boxes and focus on them as if they are separate from one another. The truth is all of life is connected and as we learn to feel that connection in every breath we take we experience life in a new way. While life may still have high and lows we learn to accept these oscillations as a a natural part of life, like the seasons. We learn to live in the flow of what is arising and move beyond the need to constantly judge ourselves, our choices and our experiences. We discover harmony, acceptance, and balance.
Tantra teaches us how to say “Yes” to the moment and to see the Divine in whatever is arising… even if it is painful or challenging. We learn to let go of trying to control the universe, which is an exhausting habit, and instead we open and trust that the abundance of the universe is supporting us in every moment. We begin to see ourselves as creators of our life experience and understand that we are not separate from the creative life force. We are gods and goddesses… not only do we begin to see ourselves in this way but we begin to see all beings as aspects of the Divine. As we gain this understanding, we have a deeper respect for all life. We are a part of the Divine Mystery that is unfolding in this moment. Life is a miracle. Our hearts expand and we experience more love, connection and passion for living.

Tantra is a spiritual path that believes all of life is sacred, including the human body. In fact, Tantra celebrates the body as a temple. As we learn to be more present in our bodies and open our senses, we begin to expand our awareness and discover that our bodies have the power and wisdom to inform us about of needs, wants, desires, and how to have them met in healthy ways. As we come to love and enjoy the body we also learn to see beyond the limitations of our form and recognize our true nature as Awareness. While many religions see the body as a barrier to spirit, Tantra sees it as a doorway. Sex is the doorway to life, it is how we are created. Sex can also be a doorway to communion with the Divine. Tantra is a broad path that includes our sexuality instead of denying it.  When we examine religion and spirituality at large, we find that most paths place restrictions on the body and on its expression as Divine in form. In particular sex and sensuality are often associated with evil which leads to sex being associated with shame, guilt and fear. Tantra teaches us that sexual energy is our life-force energy.
Tantra, teaches you how to access this life-force energy. We learn how to connect to it through the area at the base of our spines and channel it through the seven primary energy centers in our body which are called “Chakras.” Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning “wheel of light.” In Tantra, we explore the Chakras and learn how access the wisdom they contain. As we expand our knowledge and connection to our chakras we are more secure, able live with purpose, are open-hearted, can access inner guidance, and feel One-with-all-that-is.  In terms of our sexuality, Tantric practices help us open up and experience more ecstasy in our bodies. We learn how to contain our sexual energy rather than expelling it through a genital orgasm. We learn how we can be relaxed in high states of arousal and expand beyond what we previously thought was possible. What is Tantra? and its meaning.

Tantra has been one of the most neglected branches of Indian spiritual studies despite the considerable number of texts devoted to this practice, which dates back to the 5th-9th century AD.
Many people still consider tantra to be full of obscenities and unfit for people of good taste. It is also often accused of being a kind of black magic. However, in reality, tantra is one of the most important Indian traditions, representing the practical aspect of the Vedic tradition.
The religious attitude of the tantriks is fundamentally the same as that of the Vedic followers. It is believed that the tantra tradition is a part of the main Vedic tree. The more vigorous aspects of Vedic religion were continued and developed in the tantras. Generally tantriks worship either Goddess Shakti or Lord Shiva.

The Meaning of "Tantra"

The word "tantra" is derived from the combination of two words "tattva" and "mantra". "Tattva" means the science of cosmic principles, while "mantra" refers to the science of mystic sound and vibrations. Tantra therefore is the application of cosmic sciences with a view to attain spiritual ascendancy. In another sense, tantra also means the scripture by which the light of knowledge is spread: Tanyate vistaryate jnanam anemna iti tantram.
There are essentially two schools of Indian scriptures - "Agama" and "Nigama". Agamas are those which are revelations while Nigama are the traditions. Tantra is an Agama and hence it is called "srutishakhavisesah", which means it is a branch of the Vedas.

Tantric Scriptures

The main deities worshipped are Shiva and Shakti. In tantra there is a great significance of "bali" or animal sacrifices. The most vigorous aspects of Vedic traditions evolved as an esoteric system of knowledge in the Tantras. The Atharva Veda is considered to be one of the prime tantrik scriptures.

Types & Terminology

There are 18 "Agamas", which are also referred to as Shiva tantras, and they are ritualistic in character. There are three distinct tantrik traditions - Dakshina, Vama and Madhyama. They represent the three "shaktis" or powers of Shiva and are characterised by the three "gunas" or qualities - "sattva", "rajas" and "tamas". The Dakshina tradition, characterised by the "sattva" branch of tantra is essentially for good purpose. The Madhyama, characterised by "rajas" is of mixed nature, while the Vama, characterised by "tamas" is the most impure form of tantra.

Rustic Tantriks

In Indian villages, tantriks are still not quite hard to find. Many of them help the villagers solve their problems. Every person who has lived in the villages or has spent his childhood there, has a story to tell. What is so easily believed in the villages might appear illogical and unscientific to the rational urban mind, but these phenomena are realities of life.

Desire for Worldly Pleasures

Tantra is different from other traditions because it takes the whole person, and his/her worldly desires into account. Other spiritual traditions ordinarily teach that desire for material pleasures and spiritual aspirations are mutually exclusive, setting the stage for an endless internal struggle. Although most people are drawn into spiritual beliefs and practices, they have a natural urge to fulfill their desires. With no way to reconcile these two impulses, they fall prey to guilt and self-condemnation or become hypocritical. Tantra offers an alternative path.

The Tantrik Approach To Life

The tantrik approach to life avoids this pitfall. Tantra itself means "to weave, to expand, and to spread", and according to tantrik masters, the fabric of life can provide true and ever-lasting fulfillment only when all the threads are woven according to the pattern designated by nature. When we are born, life naturally forms itself around that pattern. But as we grow, our ignorance, desire, attachment, fear, and false images of others and ourselves tangle and tear the threads, disfiguring the fabric. Tantra "sadhana" or practice reweaves the fabric, and restores the original pattern. This path is systematic and comprehensive. The profound science and practices pertaining to hatha yoga, pranayama, mudras, rituals, kundalini yoga, nada yoga, mantra, mandala, visualization of dieties, alchemy, ayurveda, astrology, and hundreds of esoteric practices for generating worldly and spiritual prosperity blend perfectly in the tantrik disciplines.

Types of Mantras:

Shanti karan - (pacification) It is meant for the destruction of diseases, general well-being and emancipation from the cycle of re-birth. These mantras are for warding off the malefic effects and influence of planets and for curing of diseases.

Vashi karan - (captivation) These mantras, when used in a specific way, are to bring people under control, and thus one gains one's desires.

Sthamban - (immobilisation) These mantras deal with all the persons to stop acting against you. It is meant for mentally or physically obstructing a person or group.

Videshan - (dissension) These mantras are for creating differences between people. They are meant for creating differences between couples or close friends and allies.

Uchchattan - (aversion) It is meant for making a person hate another person or place. These mantras deal with the distraction of the mind of enemies, opponents and other persons so that they stay away from harming you. This can also be used for persons working against their country, birthplace, residence, home and family members.

Maran - (eradication ) It is meant for causing the death of a person (or enemy). These are death-inflicting mantras through which anybody can be killed.

Warning: These are some of the traditional uses. However, it is a law of nature that each and every action has a reaction, so anything done with a wrong intent will bounce back on the user. Any evil intention or act will backfire on the user only.

Mantra sadhana:
The essential and important parts of the process are:

1. Recitation of the mantra
2. Correct rhythmic pronunciation of the mantra
3. Understanding the meaning of the mantra
4. Reciting the mantra the prescribed number of times

Rules of Mantra:
Mantra should be pronounced properly. If it is not pronounced properly, its significance is likely to be changed. This shows that pronounciation should be done properly otherwise the meaning gets changed.

Where the mantra should be broken is important, the meanigng gets changed according to the place where we break the mantra. That is why we should not pronounce the mantra if we do not know how to do it. If a mantra is not properly used, it can have an adverse effect. There is a rhythm for pronouncing the mantra and the seat is specific, the sitting posture is definite.

The smaller the mantra, the more effective it is. If it is long, it becomes difficult to utter and its result is general. If it is small, it is easy to utter and its result is very good. The result of mantra is of three types:

(a) Mantra produces vibrations
(b) Colour is seen because of mantra
(c) Different types of sounds are heard

A saying from the Vedas claims that "Speech is the essence of humanity." All of what humanity thinks and ultimately becomes is determined by the expression of ideas and actions through speech and its derivative, writing. Everything, the Vedas maintain, comes into being through speech. Ideas remain unactualized until they are created through the power of speech. Similarly, The New Testament, Gospel of John, starts "In the beginning was The Word. And the Word was with God and the Word was God..."
In mainstream Vedic practices, most Buddhist techniques and classical Hinduism, mantra is viewed as a necessity for spiritual advancement and high attainment. In The Kalachakra Tantra, by the Dalai Lama and Jeffrey Hopkins, the Dalai Lama states, "Therefore, without depending upon mantra...Buddhahood cannot be attained."
Clearly, there is a reason why such widely divergent sources of religious wisdom as the Vedas, the New Testament and the Dalai Lama speak in common ideas. Here are some important ideas about mantra which will enable you to begin a practical understanding of what mantra is and what it can do.

Definition # 1: Mantras are energy-based sounds.

Saying any word produces an actual physical vibration. Over time, if we know what the effect of that vibration is, then the word may come to have meaning associated with the effect of saying that vibration or word. This is one level of energy basis for words.
Another level is intent. If the actual physical vibration is coupled with a mental intention, the vibration then contains an additional mental component which influences the result of saying it. The sound is the carrier wave and the intent is overlaid upon the wave form, just as a colored gel influences the appearance and effect of a white light.
In either instance, the word is based upon energy. Nowhere is this idea more true than for Sanskrit mantra. For although there is a general meaning which comes to be associated with mantras, the only lasting definition is the result or effect of saying the mantra.

Definition #2: Mantras create thought-energy waves.

The human consciousness is really a collection of states of consciousness which distributively exist throughout the physical and subtle bodies. Each organ has a primitive consciousness of its own. That primitive consciousness allows it to perform functions specific to it. Then come the various systems. The cardio-vascular system, the reproductive system and other systems have various organs or body parts working at slightly different stages of a single process. Like the organs, there is a primitive consciousness also associated with each system. And these are just within the physical body. Similar functions and states of consciousness exist within the subtle body as well. So individual organ consciousness is overlaid by system consciousness, overlaid again by subtle body counterparts and consciousness, and so ad infinitum.
The ego with its self-defined "I" ness assumes a pre-eminent state among the subtle din of random, semi-conscious thoughts which pulse through our organism. And of course, our organism can "pick up" the vibration of other organisms nearby. The result is that there are myriad vibrations riding in and through the subconscious mind at any given time.
Mantras start a powerful vibration which corresponds to both a specific spiritual energy frequency and a state of consciousness in seed form. Over time, the mantra process begins to override all of the other smaller vibrations, which eventually become absorbed by the mantra. After a length of time which varies from individual to individual, the great wave of the mantra stills all other vibrations. Ultimately, the mantra produces a state where the organism vibrates at the rate completely in tune with the energy and spiritual state represented by and contained within the mantra.
At this point, a change of state occurs in the organism. The organism becomes subtly different. Just as a laser is light which is coherent in a new way, the person who becomes one with the state produced by the mantra is also coherent in a way which did not exist prior to the conscious undertaking of repetition of the mantra.

Definition #3: Mantras are tools of power and tools for power.

They are formidable. They are ancient. They work. The word "mantra" is derived from two Sanskrit words. The first is "manas" or "mind," which provides the "man" syllable. The second syllable is drawn from the Sanskrit word "trai" meaning to "protect" or to "free from." Therefore, the word mantra in its most literal sense means "to free from the mind." Mantra is, at its core, a tool used by the mind which eventually frees one from the vagaries of the mind.
But the journey from mantra to freedom is a wondrous one. The mind expands, deepens and widens and eventually dips into the essence of cosmic existence. On its journey, the mind comes to understand much about the essence of the vibration of things. And knowledge, as we all know, is power. In the case of mantra, this power is tangible and wieldable.

Statements About Mantra

  1. Mantras have close, approximate one-to-one direct language-based translation. If we warn a young child that it should not touch a hot stove, we try to explain that it will burn the child. However, language is insufficient to convey the experience. Only the act of touching the stove and being burned will adequately define the words "hot" and "burn" in the context of "stove." Essentially, there is no real direct translation of the experience of being burned.
    Similarly, there is no word which is the exact equivalent of the experience of sticking one's finger into an electrical socket. When we stick our hand into the socket, only then do we have a context for the word "shock." But shock is really a definition of the result of the action of sticking our hand into the socket.
    It is the same with mantras. The only true definition is the experience which it ultimately creates in the sayer. Over thousands of years, many sayers have had common experiences and passed them on to the next generation. Through this tradition, a context of experiential definition has been created.
  2. Definitions of mantras are oriented toward either the results of repeating the mantra or of the intentions of the original framers and testers of the mantra. In Sanskrit, sounds which have no direct translation but which contain great power which can be "grown" from it are called "seed mantras." Seed in Sanskrit is called "Bijam" in the singular and "Bija" in the plural form. Please refer to the pronunciation guide on page 126 for more information on pronunciation of mantras.
    Let's take an example. The mantra "Shrim" or Shreem is the seed sound for the principle of abundance (Lakshmi, in the Hindu Pantheon.) If one says "shrim" a hundred times, a certain increase in the potentiality of the sayer to accumulate abundance is achieved. If one says "shrim" a thousand times or a million, the result is correspondingly greater.
    But abundance can take many forms. There is prosperity, to be sure, but there is also peace as abundance, health as wealth, friends as wealth, enough food to eat as wealth, and a host of other kinds and types of abundance which may vary from individual to individual and culture to culture. It is at this point that the intention of the sayer begins to influence the degree of the kind of capacity for accumulating wealth which may accrue.
  3. Mantras have been tested and/or verified by their original framers or users. Each mantra is associated with an actual sage or historical person who once lived. Although the oral tradition predates written speech by centuries, those earliest oral records annotated on palm leaves discussed earlier clearly designate a specific sage as the "seer" of the mantra. This means that the mantra was probably arrived at through some form of meditation or intuition and subsequently tested by the person who first encountered it.
  4. Sanskrit mantras are composed of letters which correspond to certain petals or spokes of chakras in the subtle body. As discussed in Chapter 2, there is a direct relationship between the mantra sound, either vocalized or subvocalized, and the chakras located throughout the body.
  5. Mantras are energy which can be likened to fire. You can use fire either to cook your lunch or to burn down the forest. It is the same fire. Similarly, mantra can bring a positive and beneficial result, or it can produce an energy meltdown when misused or practiced without some guidance. There are certain mantra formulas which are so exact, so specific and so powerful that they must be learned and practiced under careful supervision by a qualified teacher.
    Fortunately, most of the mantras widely used in the West and certainly those contained in this volume are perfectly safe to use on a daily basis, even with some intensity.
  6. Mantra energizes prana. "Prana" is a Sanskrit term for a form of life energy which can be transferred from individual to individual. Prana may or may not produce an instant dramatic effect upon transfer. There can be heat or coolness as a result of the transfer.
    Some healers operate through transfer of prana. A massage therapist can transfer prana with beneficial effect. Even self-healing can be accomplished by concentrating prana in certain organs, the result of which can be a clearing of the difficulty or condition. For instance, by saying a certain mantra while visualizing an internal organ bathed in light, the specific power of the mantra can become concentrated there with great beneficial effect.
  7. Mantras eventually quiet the mind. At a deep level, subconscious mind is a collective consciousness of all the forms of primitive consciousnesses which exist throughout the physical and subtle bodies. The dedicated use of mantra can dig into subconscious crystallized thoughts stored in the organs and glands and transform these bodily parts into repositories of peace.

Dharyo roop Narsimha ko amba,

Pragat bhayin phar kar khamba.

Raksha kari Prahlaad bachayo,

Hiranakush ko swarga pathayo.

Nagarkot men tumhi virajat,

Tihun lok men danka bajat.

Rakta-beeja shankhan samhare.

Mahishasur nripa ati abhimani,

Jehi agha bhar mahi akulani.

Roop karal Kalika dhara,

Sen Sahita tum tin samhara.

Pan garha Santan par jab jab,

Bhayi sahaya Matu tum tab tab.

Amarpuni aru basava loka,

Tava Mahirna sab rahen asoka.

Jwala men hai jyoti tumhari,

Tumhen sada poojen nar nari.

Prem bhakti se Jo yash gave,

Dukh-daridra nikat nahin ave.

Dhyave tumhen jo nar man laee,

Janam-maran tako chuti jaee.

Jogi sur-muni kahat pukari,

Jog na ho bin shakti tumhari.

Shankar Aacharaj tap keenhon,

Kam, krodha jeet sab leenhon.

Nisidin dhyan dharo Shankar ko,

Kahu kal nahini sumiro tum ko.

Shakti roop ko maran na payo,

Shakti gayi tab man pachitayo.

Sharnagat hui keerti bakhani,

Jai jai jai Jagdamb Bhavani.

Bhayi prasanna Aadi Jagdamba,

Dayi shakti nahin keen vilamba.

Mokon Matu kashta ati ghero,

Tum bin kaun hare dukh mero.

Aasha trishna nipat sataven,

Moh madadik sab binsaven.

Shatru nash keeje Maharani,

Sumiron ekachita tumhen Bhavani.

Karo kripa Hey Matu dayala,

Riddhi-Siddhi de karahu nihala.

Jab lagi jiyoon daya phal paoon,

Tumhro yash men sada sunaoon.

Durga Chalisa jo gave,

Sab sukh bhog parampad pave.


I bow to You O Goddess Durga, the bestower of happiness!
I bow to You O Goddess Amba, who Ends all miseries.

The radiance of your light is limitless and all pervading and all the three
realms (Earth, Heaven And the Nether World) are enlightened by Thee.

Your face is like the moon and mouth very huge. Your eyes shine with a
red glow and You have a Frightening frown.

O Mother! Your look is enchanting, the very sight of which ensures welfare
of the devout.

All the powers of the World repose in Thee and it is You who provide food and
wealth for the World's survival.

Like the feeding Mother Annapoorna, You nurture the whole universe and You are
the one Who appear like the timeless Bala Sundari (young girl of extreme beauty).

At the time of dissolution, it is You, O Mother, who destroys everything. You are the
beloved Consort of Lord Shiva, Gauri (Parvati).

Lord Shiva and all yogis always chant your praise Brahma,
Vishnu and all other Gods ever meditate on You.

You appear in the form of Goddess Saraswati too,
to grant wisdom to the sages and thus ensure their Welfare.

O Mother Amba! It was You who appeared in the form
of Narsimha, sundering the pillar.

Thus You saved Prahlad and Hiranyakashyap also went to
Heaven as he was killed by your Hands.

In the form of Goddess Lakshmi, O Mother, you appear in
this world and repose by the side of Shree Narayan.

Dwelling in the ocean of milk, O Goddess, with Lord Vishnu,
please fulfill my desires.

O Bhavani, the famous Goddess of Hingalaja is no one else but
You Yourself. Illimitable is your Glory, defying description.

You are yourself Matangi and Dhoomavati Mata. It is You who appear as
Bhuvaneshwari and Bagalamukhi Devi to bestow happiness to all.

It is You who redeem the wolrd, appearing in the form of Shree Bhairavi,
Taradevi and Chhinnamasta Devi, and end its sorrows.

Reposing gracefully upon your vehicle, O Goddess Bhavani, You are welcome
by the brave Langour (Lord Hanuman).

When You appear in the form of Goddess Kali, with sword in one hand and a
cupel in the other, Even Time flees in panic.

Beholding You, well armed, with a Trident in your hand, the enemy's
heart aches with the sting Of fear.

You also repose in the form of Devi at Nagarkot in Kangara. Thus all the
three realms shudder in the might of your glory.

You slayed the demons like Shumbh & Nishumb and massacred the
thousand forms of the dreaded Demon Raktabeej.

When the earth was severely distressed bearing the load of the sins
of the arrogant Mahishasur.

You assumed the dreadful form of Goddess Kali and
massacred him along with his army.

Thus, whenever the noble saints were distressed,
it is You O Mother, who came to their rescue.

All the realms including the Amarpuri (divine realm) remain
sorrow-less and happy by Your Grace. O Goddess!

It is the symbol of Your glory that is burning brightly at Shree JwalaJi.
All me and women Ever worship You, O Mother!

He who sings Your glory with devotion, love, and sincerity remains
beyond the reach of grief And poverty.

He who meditates upon Your form with concentration goes
beyond the cycle of births and deaths.

All the yogis, gods and sages openly declare that without your
favor one can't establish communion with God.

Shankaracharya had performed once a special penance called
Aacharaj and by virtue of which he had subdued his anger and desire.

He ever worshipped Lord Shankar and never for a moment
concentrated his mind on You.

Since He did not realize your immense glory, all His powers
waned and then He repented hitherto.

Then He sought refuge in You, chanted Your glory and
'victory, victory, victory to Thee, O Jagadamba Bhavani'.

Then, O Primal Goddess Jagadamba Ji, You were propitiated and
in no time You bestowed Him with his lost powers.

O Mother! Severe afflictions distress me and no one except Your
Honored Self can provide relief please end my afflictions.

Hopes and longings ever torture me. All sorts of passions and
lust ever torment my heart.

O Goddess Bhavani! I meditate only upon you Please
kill my enemies O Queen!

O Merciful Mother! Show me your favor and make me feel
happy by bestowing me with all sorts of riches and powers.

O Mother! May I be receptable of Your grace as long as I live,
ever recounting the feats of Your Glory to all.

This way, whoever sings this Durga Chalisa shall ever enjoy all
sorts of pleasures and shall attain the highest state in the end.

Jaya jaya ganapati gan raaju, mangala bharana karana shubha kaaju .
Jaya gajabadana sadana sukhadaataa, vishva vinaayaka buddhi vidhaata.
Vakra tunda shuchi shunda suhaavana, tilaka tripunda bhaala mana bhaavana.
Raajata mani muktana ura maala, svarna mukuta shira nayana vishaala.
Pustaka paani kuthaara trishuulam, modaka bhoga sugandhita phoolam.
Sundara piitaambara tana saajita, charana paaduka muni mana raajita.
Dhani shiva suvana shadaanana bhraata, gaurii lalana vishva-vidhaata.
Riddhi siddhi tava chanvara sudhaare, mushaka vaahana sohata dvaare.
Kahaun janma shubha kathaa tumhaari, ati shuchi paavana mangala kaari.
Eka samaya giriraaj kumaari, putra hetu tapa kinha bhaari.
Bhayo yagya jaba puurna anuupa, taba pahunchyo tuma dhari dvija ruupa.
Atithi jaani kai gauri sukhaari, bahuvidhi sevaa kari tumhaari.
Ati prasanna hvai tuma vara diinha, maatu putra hita jo tapa kiinha.
Milahi putra tuhi buddhi vishaala, binaa garbha dhaarana yahi kaala.
Gananaayaka, guna gyaana nidhaana, puujita prathama ruupa bhagavana.
Asa kahi antardhyaana ruupa hvai, palana para baalaka svaruupa hvai.
Bani shishu rudana jabahi tuma thaana, lakhi mukha sukha nahin gauri samaan.
Sakala magana, sukha mangala gaavahin, nabha te surana sumana varshaavahin.
Shambhu uma, bahu dana lutavahin, sura munijana, suta dekhana aavahin.
Lakhi ati aananda mangala saaja, dekhana bhi aaye shani raaja.
Nija avaguna guni shani mana maahin, baalaka, dekhan chaahata naahin.
Giraja kachhu mana bheda badhaayo, utsava mora na shani tuhi bhaayo.
Kahana lage shani, mana sakuchaai, kaa karihau, shishu mohi dikhaai.
Nahin vishvaasa, uma ur bhayau, shani so baalaka dekhana kahyau.
Padatahin, shani driga kona prakaasha, baalaka shira udi gayo aakaasha.
Giraja giriin vikala hvai dharani, so dukha dasha gayo nahin varani.
Haahaakaara machyo kailaasha, shani kiinhyon lakhi suta ka naasha.
Turata garuda chadhi Vishnu sidhaaye, kaati chakra so gaja shira laaye.
Baalaka ke dhada upara dhaarayo, praana, mantra padha shankara darayo.
Naama 'ganesha' shambhu taba kiinhe, prathama puujya buddhi nidhi, vara diinhe.
Buddhi pariiksha jaba shiva kiinha, prithvii kar pradakshina liinha.
Chale shadaanana, bharami bhulaIi, rachi baitha tuma buddhi upaai.
Charana maatu-pitu ke dhara linhen, tinake saata pradakshina kinhen.
Dhani ganesha, kahi shiva hiya harashe, nabha te surana sumana bahu barase.

Tumhari mahima buddhi badaye., shesha sahasa mukha sakai na gaai.
Mein mati hina malina dukhaari, karahun kauna vidhi vinaya tumhaari.
Bhajata 'raamasundara' prabhudaasa, lakha prayaga, kakara, durvasa .
Aba prabhu daya dina para kijai, apani bhakti shakti kuchhu dijai.

Laye Sanjivan Lakhan Jiyaye   You brought Sanjivan (A herb that revives life) and restored
Shri Raghuvir Harashi ur laye   Lakshman back to life, Shri Raghuvir (Shri Ram) cheerfully
    embraced you with his heart full of joy.
Raghupati Kinhi bahut badai   Shri Raghupati (Shri Ram) lustily extolled your excellence and
Tum mam priye Bharat-hi sam bhai   said: "You are as dear to me as my own brother Bharat."
Sahas badan tumharo yash gaave   Thousands of living beings are chanting hymns of your glories;
Us kahi Shripati kanth lagaave   saying thus, Shri Ram warmly hugged him (Shri Hanuman).
Sankadik Brahmadi Muneesa   When prophets like Sanka, even the Sage like Lord Brahma,

Lankeshwar Bhaye Sub jag jana   all over the Universe.
Yug sahastra jojan par Bhanu   On your own you dashed upon the Sun, which is at a fabulous
Leelyo tahi madhur phal janu   distance of thousands of miles, thinking it to be a sweet
    luscious fruit.
Prabhu mudrika meli mukh mahee   Carrying the Lord's Signet Ring in your mouth, there is
Jaladhi langhi gaye achraj nahee   hardly any wonder that you easily leapt across the ocean.
Durgaam kaj jagat ke jete   The burden of all difficult tasks of the world become light
Sugam anugraha tumhre tete   with your kind grace.
Ram dware tum rakhvare,   You are the sentry at the door of Shri Ram's Divine Abode.
Hoat na agya binu paisare   No one can enter it without your permission,
